Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery - Part 3

How does an MVHR system work?

An MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) system is a whole-house ventilation system that provides fresh, filtered air to your home while recovering heat from the extracted air. This helps to reduce your energy bills and improve indoor air quality.

Here's how an MVHR system works:

  1. Extract stale air: Fans extract stale, moist air from wet rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms.
  2. Transfer heat: The extracted air passes through a heat exchanger, where the heat is transferred to a heat transfer medium.
  3. Supply fresh air: Fresh air is drawn into the unit and passed through the heat exchanger, where it is warmed by the heat transfer medium.
  4. Distribute fresh air: The warmed fresh air is then distributed to habitable rooms such as bedrooms and living rooms.
